Video tape Rescue Service
Repair, Restore, Recover and Transfer to DVD

This service is now available for:-
VHS,SVHS, VHSc,SVHSc, video8* ,
*
(SD Standard Definition ONLY) *(Limited Services available)

How does it work ?

First the damaged video cassette is striped down, cleaned, inspected and repaired, damaged or worn parts are replaced or the video tape reels are removed and inserted into a new video cassette housing with a new set of parts i.e. guide rollers, reel brakes, etc. If the video tape has been snapped or twisted, a repair  (splice) will be carried out. When the tape is operational your video recording is converted to a digital and a standard video to DVD transfer will be completed for you. For additional security of your important recording, the DVD or DVDs will be sent out to you first by Royal Mail 1st Class and your original video tape will be safely stored for you. Once you have received your DVD and confirmed with us that all is OK, we can then return your original video cassette or recycle /dispose of it locally for you, depending on your chosen option.    When a videotape has been damaged and repaired we recommend that it is not played in a domestic videotape player or camcorder as this may cause damage to the machine (your original video cassette will be labelled with a warning as appropriate).

 Snapped or Torn Video tape.

We can repair (splice) the broken videotape together or re-attach it to the spool. When the repair has been completed we convert the rescued video to a digital file and then transfer it to a DVD.
Please note that due to the way the picture on the videotape is recorded there may be a some interference displayed on the DVD at the point the videotape is repaired /spliced. If we have carried out a repair to the video tape we recommend that it is not played in a domestic video player or camcorder as this may damage the machine (the repaired video tape will be labelled with a warning as appropriate)

Video tape twisted, crumpled or screwed up.

We can cut out the section of the video tape that has been twisted or screwed up and repair / splice the video tape back together, when the repair has been completed we convert the video on the tape to a digital file and then transfer it to a DVD.
Please note that due to the way the picture on the video tape is recorded there may be a some interference displayed on the DVD at the point the video tape is repaired / spliced. If the tape has been spliced we recommend that it is not played in a domestic video player or camcorder as this may damage the machine (the repaired video or camcorder tape will be labelled with a warning as appropriate)

The cassette case is broken or has damaged or missing parts.

The damaged video cassette is striped down and inspected, broken, worn or missing parts are replaced or the video tape is removed and placed into a new cassette housing with a new set of mechanical parts i.e. brakes, guide rollers etc

The video tape won't move, or the video cassette is ejected by the player.

Inside the video cassette are several mechanical parts including the cassette brake, this is like the parking brake on a car. It stops the tape reels from spilling out the tape when the cassette is outside the player or camcorder. Normally the cassette brake is automatically released when the tape is put into the player / camcorder, however if it fails to release due to faulty parts the tape will not move and in some players will automatically be ejected and in other older players could cause the tape to snap.
We repair or replace the faulty parts, or the video tape is removed and placed into a new cassette housing with a new set of mechanical parts i.e. brakes, guide rollers etc.

The player won't accept or rejects the video cassette

If problems occur when you push the video cassette into the tape slot on your video player i.e. it stops and is not accepted or the the player rejects it pushing back out again. This is often caused by a slightly bent or distorted cassette case.  To fix this problem the videotape is removed and placed into a new cassette housing with a new set of mechanical parts i.e. brakes, guide rollers etc

D.I.Y Attempted repair !

It looks quite simple and it is relatively easy to gain access to a video tape cassette, usually by removing 4 or 5 small screws however it is not so easy to carry out the repair, re-assemble the video tape cassette and make it operational again. We have had many phone conversation with customers who have found this out to their horror, if this has happened to you then we can help, if possible remove any loose springs and other mechanical parts that could damage the tape in transit and keep the tape spools inside the cassette housing, or just send the spools very carefully pack so that the tape does not become unwound or screwed up causing further damage. We have replacement cassette housing including all the mechanical parts i.e. brakes, tape guides, rollers, flaps, springs etc and can get your tape operational again and transfer the recording to a DVD or DVDs

Mould and Damp related problems

This is becoming more of a problem, when video tapes have been stored for a long time they can be contaminated by mould. If when looking trough the tape window a white powdery substance or growth can be seen then the tape has been contaminated. we strongly recommend that you do not play the tape as it could damage your recording and contaminate your player and other tapes played on the machine.

We can rescue the recording from most Mould contaminated VHS and analogue Camcorder tapes with our Video Tape Rescue Service. The video cassette is striped down, cleaned and inspected, damaged or contaminated  parts are replaced or the video tape reels are removed and inserted into a replacement cassette housing with a new set of mechanical parts i.e. brakes, guide rollers etc. Once the tape has be made operational, the recording will be rescued (captured to a digital file and transferred to a DVD for you).

Mould contamination usually indicates the presents of moisture, in some cases tapes showing signs of mould may also have other more serious problems: tape ribbon contamination, deterioration due to moisture being adsorbed by the tape, tape welding etc

accidentally dropped my video camera out of the 20th floor of an apartment block and it smashed to pieces, of course. DVDedit expertly recovered the video media from thMiniDV tape which was badly damaged from the fall and at an unbelievably good price. This is a great service and I cannot recommend it enough.

Excellent. Very impressive indeed ... I was absolutely delighted with the extremely friendly, very high quality service and expertise in restoring an old treasured tv film from a white mould/dust covered and snapped 1989 VHS cassette tape ... transferring the film to DVD with briliant results. I will definitely be a return customer.

My vhs tape was 22 years old and all the family thought that it was past repair. As this was the only copy we had in the family I sent my order off to DVD edit. Within 3 days I had an e-mail confirming receipt and another 2 days later an e-mail to confirm that my DVD was in the post. I was most impressed at the response time and when the DVD arrived they had managed to transfer the tape - which we all thought was no good - on to DVD with amazing results. Well done DVD edit for your prompt response and handling of my very precious VHS tape. I would reccommend them to anyone who has a VHS tape which they may think is past repair to use their services.

Quick turnaround, kept up to date with emails all the time, excellent end result! Thanks

Excellent - very good quality copy and easy to do business with.

I can honestly say that the speed of service and professionalism given by dvd edit is second to none. Not only was my VHS tape fixed (which was of huge relief) but the reassuring and consistent mannner in which I was dealt with was fabulous. Thank you dvd edit for being a rare find of excellence in these busy and poorly customer focussed times. If only every service company could be as efficient! Thanks again - I will be back Alison
